FACKELMANN BRANDS: Engaging With Social Responsibility.

Learn how this family business is shifting the industry.

For more than a decade, the primary focus of the kitchen sector has been food safety and hygiene, but now the industry is beginning to look beyond. As we as a global society start looking ahead to the future of our lives on planet Earth, sustainability, the environment and the effects of climate change are demanding that all industries take responsibility and evolve. For many large corporations, this could be seen as a simple box-checking exercise, but for family business Fackelmann Brands, this is the stage upon which they are establishing themselves as an industry leader.

Fackelmann is converting a large portion of its products and packaging to sustainable materials by 2025. The inspiration comes as the team have seen the effects of pollution and climate change, the damage to sea life and the threat it causes to our futures. Understanding the need to adapt, the team at Fackelmann Brands has worked hard to find sustainable alternate products to continue delivering the service expected by their customers.

“As a manufacturer, we have the responsibility to improve all the sustainability in the products – look after the environment for the next generation,” explained Alexander Fackelmann, President, Fackelmann Brands. “This is very, very important to us.”

A producer of kitchen tools, houseware, baking items and bathroom furniture, Fackelmann Brands prides itself on providing a wide range of resources for the kitchen and bathroom spaces. To continue their success as an industry leader, the Fackelmann Brands team have been focusing on three key pillars for evolution; the introduction of new sustainable materials; the optimisation of production to become more energy efficient;and to ensure that all employees, from Europe to Asia, not only embraces these goals, but also have fair and safe working conditions themselves.

Although these goals are much more the focus now, sustainability has been at the core of Fackelmann Brands’ ideals for many years. Fackelmann Brands has long embraced the idea of circular economy, and does as much as possible to feed back any waste products back into the production cycle. For over 30 years, for example, the team has been reusing waste wood from furniture production as heat for the company, a carbon neutral process. When it comes to the production and distribution of disposable items, most of Fackelmann Brands’ single-use products have already been pulled from the line. Any remaining products are being adapted to become multi-use, or are being reconstructed using biodegradable or sustainable materials.

“As a global market leader, for us sustainability is not only a matter of products and materials or production, but also in terms of social responsibilities,” explained Martin Strack, CEO, Fackelmann Brands. “To get there, we have to unleash innovation, deepen and form new partnerships with our suppliers and customers, form close dialogue with our community to thrive with greener solutions.”

The team at Fackelmann Brands are committed to working together alongside their clients and their partners to ensure that they continue to deliver the services required of them, and to help those who use their products to continue to deliver high-grade services with sustainable tools. The climate challenge has only shown to prove and strengthen Fackelmann Brands’ position at the forefront of industry innovation.
