Firmenich: Leading Inclusive Growth for People, Planet & Society

Founded in Geneva, in 1895, Firmenich is the world’s largest privately-owned Perfume and Taste company, in its 5th generation of 100% family-ownership. Touching over 4 billion consumers every day across 100+ markets, the Group has a 124-year legacy of leading its business responsibly.

Driven by our purpose to “create positive emotions to enhance wellbeing, naturally”, we are putting our innovation to work to advance a number of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), from improving nutrition and sanitation, to respecting nature and reducing inequalities.

A true pioneer in responsible business, this video showcases how our inclusive capitalism business model is delivering positive value for people, the planet and society.

Firmenich is one of only seven companies, and the first in our industry, to be globally certified as a gender equality employer by EDGE, the world’s leading business certification standard in this area. This certification goes well beyond equal pay to include gender balance across our recruitment, promotion, training and mentoring programs.

Committed to being truly inclusive, we embrace diversity of backgrounds, race, gender, age and experience, as well as people with different abilities. Most recently, we joined the Valuable 500 to firmly anchor “disability inclusion” on our leadership agenda. We are also a signatory of the United Nations’ Standards of Conduct for Business supporting greater equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people.

Coming out of COP21 in Paris, we set ourselves the most ambitious environmental goals in the industry with a vision to become carbon neutral.

For example, we committed to 100% renewable electricity across all operations by 2020. We have already reached 100% across our operations in Europe, North America and Brazil; and at 85% worldwide, we are well on the way to achieving our goal.

Recognized as a global environmental leader, this year, Firmenich is one of only two companies worldwide, out of 7,000, to have achieved a triple A ranking with CDP, in Climate, Water and Forestry. This builds on our gold rating with Ecovadis, where we ranked second among the 45,000 companies rated worldwide.

At Firmenich we are committed to making healthier food and drink options taste delicious to tackle today’s malnutrition crisis with 2.1 billion adults overweight or obese in the world.

The Group’s latest technology TastePRINT™ can reduce up to 100% of added sugar naturally without compromising on taste, removing  870 billion calories from consumers’ diets last year. We are also actively shaping green protein solutions enabling Flexitarian diets, based on a balanced consumption of animal and plant-based proteins.

At Firmenich, we believe that we can make a difference.

We know that delivering on sustainability will require collaboration and partnerships, and that no single actor can solve today’s challenges alone. However, we are optimistic about how companies are rallying around the SDGs. With just over 10 years left to transform our world, now is the time for action. At Firmenich we are committed to putting our innovation, science and scale to work to help drive positive change.
