Georg Fischer: Innovation and Collaboration for the Good of the Planet

Environmental challenges are intensifying. As the effects of climate change continue to snowball, and as the global population grows, it is crucial that governments, businesses and individuals react responsibly to transition the world into a more sustainable future. The priorities include finding more sources of clean water, along with increasing sustainable mobility solutions and creating higher energy efficiency. Sustainability challenges are becoming visible and somewhat overpowering.

But what if, instead of being overwhelmed by the sustainable challenges posed to them, companies use this opportunity to pioneer more innovation, more collaboration, and allow new technologies to blossom? GF is one company that is setting milestones in this regard. With three divisions specializing in piping systems, casting solutions, and machining solutions, GF is a leader  in the safe transportation of gases and liquids, vehicle weight reduction and the creation of efficient manufacturing technologies.

Fostering positive change has been a priority at GF and a core part of the company’s ethos and business model since its inception over two hundred years ago. The company, headquartered in Schaffhausen, Switzerland with a global presence in nearly 35 countries is already contributing to 11 of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. One of the major environmental issues that GF addresses is the loss of water through leaking piping systems, a key challenge especially in areas that routinely experience draught, such as California. Through enabling its clients to create flow technologies, pipe and valve fittings, sensor technologies, GF goes new ways to rehabilitate and deliver fresh water to consumers in a safe and sustainable matter.

GF Casting Solutions is a key player in the e-mobility and aerospace sectors. The division’s products include lightweight components such as battery casings or e-engine components, with the purpose of ensuring fewer CO2 emissions and encouraging the use of renewable energies. Finally, GF’s Machining Solutions  develops new technologies, such as laser texturing that can replace harmful chemical processes, ensuring higher energy efficiency for customers and avoid using hazardous waste materials.

GF’s products and operations came a long way. Today, GF is setting  an example for the responsible consumption of natural resources, meeting the highest social and environmental standards and fostering  real change. With a future-focused outlook, inspiring others to work in collaboration to create a positive impact in the world, Georg Fischer continues to make sustainability a priority and the foundation of its business.
