Groupe Rocher’s ambition for the future

After the death of his father, Yves Rocher, 14 years old at the time, found in nature the peace, consolation and protection he needed.

This intense experience informed Yves Rocher’s approach to nature and would lead him to establish measures for his company, Groupe Rocher, to ensure the preservation of biodiversity.

Producer of beauty products since 1959, Groupe Rocher made the decision to stop animal testing in 1989, 15 years before this was enforced by the French law. In 1997, all its crops were organic and, in 2006, its stores stopped using plastic bags. All those measures are related to the vocation of this mission-driven company: Reconnect people to nature.

With the current challenges that arise from climate change, along with the need to preserve biodiversity around the world, it can be easy to condemn the beauty sector for its use of plant-based resources, and for its impact on the local environment. However, Groupe Rocher is a company which continually demonstrates that it is possible to create such products in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way.

Groupe Rocher has a longstanding and sustainable presence in the cosmetics sector and aims to be even more environment friendly. With several sustainable targets – such as reducing 50% of its carbon emissions by 2030, along with ensuring that its production and factories are carbon neutral by 2025, using 100% renewable energy – the company demonstrates its adherence to its mission in a clearly identifiable manner.

The company believes that challenges like climate change and biodiversity protection can only be solved with everyone’s input – whether that input comes from citizens, workers, or wider firms. That is why Groupe Rocher works across all its facilities and services to involve its employees in its sustainable actions.

In the meantime, in today’s era of digitalisation and constant evolution, Groupe Rocher and other companies work together to develop solutions to bring sustainable benefits across industries. As part of this collaborative effort, Groupe Rocher is a patron of the Yves Rocher Foundation. Therefore, the Groupe is involved in the planting of over 95 million trees across 35 countries.

Groupe Rocher has a clear purpose and understands that sustainable action today will bring benefits in the future. Sustainable creation of beauty products does not offset their effectiveness and proves to Groupe Rocher’s consumers that there is a way to produce cosmetics without contributing to a negative environmental impact.

Having existed for over 60 years, Groupe Rocher is aware that a company must adapt to ensure its longevity and continued relevance. However, with a sustainable set of principles that have remained consistent and a part of its strategy across the decades, the company demonstrates to its industry that modernisation and values need not be exclusive.
