MULTIVAC: Packaging And Processing Solutions For A Sustainable World

Saving resources and adding value for customers, consumers, society and the environment.

As the world’s population continues to grow, our free space shrinks. The world isn’t getting bigger any time soon, so our space to grow natural resources is becoming limited. This is why companies like Multivac are committed to making the most of the space we have, and reducing our food waste through responsible packaging and processing solutions.

Multivac is responsible for providing complete packaging solutions predominantly for the food industry, but also for the medical world as well as for the consumer goods industry. Establishing themselves as innovators since 1961, Multivac’s boundaries have always only been limited to what the team deems possible.

Although an industry leader now, the team has come a long way from the days when the founder built Multivac’s first packaging machine within a garage with friends. By the end of the decade, Multivac had made an international impression.

“That was a time when markets were asking for more hygiene, packaging solutions, and we came exactly at the right time,” explained Christian Traumann, Group President, Multivac. “Our main aim is always to deliver shelf life to the product, but also additional security in respect to hygiene.”

Pioneering the integration of machines into the packaging process has been essential for the past 60 years, but digitalisation presented a new turning point for the company. Adding additional security for both food and medical supplies where it’s crucial for the products not to be exposed to contaminants before being shipped.

With around a third of all food globally deteriorating in transport before they hit shelves, Multivac has dedicated themselves to better looking after the resources we have on planet Earth and reducing food waste. Despite being a global company, the team has never left the close-knit culture and ambition that propelled them out of the founder’s garage and into the international market.

“We strive to think globally, but act locally, so we encourage our customers to think about their markets first to shorten delivery supply chains and reduce transport,” said Dr Tobias Richter, Executive Vice President, Corporate Sales and Marketing. “We have to develop comprehensive solutions.”

The team must take into account the food products themselves and their shelf lives, as well as the requirements of the individual customers’ needs and the logistic chains required when considering shipping options. Through their solutions and strategies, the team takes pride in knowing that the food they package is feeding billions around the world.

Multivac knows the importance of ambition and drive, and is known to help foster this spirit and energy through an understanding atmosphere that recognises the value of making a mistake and trying again. Building better and stronger solutions through the value of hard work and understanding, Multivac has continued to build upon the values it established in that garage 60 years ago.
