Schaeffler: Innovative solutions that enable sustainable mobility and motion.

Schaeffler develops and delivers innovative and intelligent components, systems, and services that enable sustainable mobility and motion.

The growing need for a more sustainable economy and the ongoing climate change are two of the most significant trends our world is currently facing. For Schaeffler, sustainability is a matter of overarching importance that cuts across and sets the tone for all areas of its business. As one of the world’s leading automotive and industrial suppliers, it is the aim of the company to create sustainable value for its stakeholders.
Schaeffler is clearly committed to develop solutions to further reduce CO2 emissions. More climate action requires innovative technologies for the transition to renewable forms of energy and efficient options for energy storage and distribution.

As part of its sustainable corporate strategy, Schaeffler consistently aligns its production processes towards resource efficiency, environmental compatibility, and the conservation of resources. Since 2020, 100 percent of the electricity purchased at all German production sites comes from renewable sources. Moreover, the company implemented several measures to subsequently increase annual energy efficiency by 100 GWh by the year 2024. By 2030 Schaeffler will produce carbon-neutral at all its production sites worldwide and thereby make an important contribution to more climate protection. In addition to its own production sites Schaeffler views sustainable procurement applying to the responsible use of critical materials, human rights, as well as environmental and social standards, as key to integrity-based governance.

For Schaeffler, creating sustainable value means focusing not only on its own processes and supply chain, but also on products, systems, and services. The approach of Schaeffler is the development of electrified drive technologies that reduce the average emissions of the vehicle fleet to a minimum. At the same time, the Industrial division of the company is also ideally positioned to offer comparable services in its sector. Consider rail or wind power business, for example, where Schaeffler can offer technologies such as friction-optimized bearings for maximum energy efficiency. By providing first-class spare parts the company extends the life cycle of products and helps its customers with services to repair vehicles in a sustainable and efficient manner.

Furthermore, social responsibility is of great importance for Schaeffler. The employees are the essential pillar for ensuring the success of the company. Therefore, the focus lies on the re- and upskilling of the qualification of employees, the entire workforce globally, to master the challenges of transformation. At the same time, the continuous improvement of occupational health and safety is of highest priority for the whole Group. An important target in this context is to reduce the accident rate by an annual average of 10 percent by 2024.
For Schaeffler, sustainability has been firmly anchored as a corporate value in the company’s activities for many years and is an essential part of the company’s mission: We develop and deliver innovative and intelligent components, systems, and services that enable sustainable mobility and motion.
