Wilo Group– Pumps and Partnerships for a Sustainable Future

Water is a paradoxical substance. While it covers a vast percentage of the globe, the amount of useable water – purified and available for human consumption or for use in agriculture and industry – is actually growing increasingly scarce thanks to the effects of urbanisation, climate change and environmental pollution. In Africa, for example, droughts that reduce the availability of water lead to widespread suffering. Pump and system provider, Wilo Group, is engaging with this issue by producing sustainable solutions to such water-based problems.

Headquartered in Dortmund, Germany, Wilo is an international leader in its industry and is working towards a mission: ‘To invent and manage responsible water solutions that benefit everyone, everywhere’. This international focus is reflected in the group itself, with over ninety-nine nationalities working together to bring about a sustainable future.

With a target of providing one-hundred million people with access to drinking water by 2025, Wilo is heavily incorporating sustainability into its approach; the company’s pumps help to provide people around the world with water in an intelligent, efficient and climate-friendly manner. Pumps across the world use about ten percent of the global energy consumption; Wilo’s products, on the other hand, are modern high-efficiency pumps. Globally, the replacement of obsolete technology with the latest generation of Wilo pumps could save up to 246 Terawatt hours – the equivalent of 80 carbon power stations.

Creating responsible products is a key focus for Wilo Group, but sustainable development is also achieved through other means – such as effective education. Wilo shows support by partnering with global projects such as the Afrika Kommt! programme, a one-year management training initiative allowing the participants to gain first-hand practical experience and insights into the company`s working and management methods. Wilo believes that the younger generations have great potential to shape their own future in a sustainable manner; partnering with sustainable education programs allows the group to do its part in helping lay the foundation for such a future.

Wilo Group, as a climate protection company, is working to support better living standards and to boost the sustainability of water systems around the world in the face of climate change. Such measures will only grow more necessary as time goes on and Wilo is proving itself a forward-thinking leader in water solutions by defining its processes and strategies in this regard.
